Kentucky is now 10-2 and 9-3 in SEC openings under Calipari, and the Wildcats are desperate for a win. Kentucky and Mississippi State will travel to Starkville for the first time this season on Saturday night at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
The Bulldogs have made 10 NCAA tournament appearances in the last three seasons, including two national championships and two Final Four appearances. State has also won three regular SEC titles in the last decade - season titles, two SEC tournament titles and a pair of SEC tournament titles - and half of them.
Mississippi State is also ranked among the top 10 teams in the country for the first time in school history by US News & World Report. The Bulldogs have a chance to become the fastest team ever to advance from first place to first. The state has made it to the round of the last 16 or better in each of its last four NCAA tournaments, the only nine schools in the country to do so, and the state netminder has continued that steadfastness, making it only the third time that only seven schools have done so in their first five years of NCAA play.
In 2005 and 2006, MSU received accolades from the American Football Coaches Association, and recorded the school's first-ever national football championship and the first national title in school history, as well as the program's second-best regular season.
The Bulldogs were a five-time national quarterfinalist and had the school's best NCAA semifinal record in 1994 and 1998. The team earned its first national championship ticket in school history in 2005 with a 12-0 record and a victory over the University of Texas at Austin.
Even more impressive is that since 1990, the women have received 28 honorary SEC memberships and nine Bulldogs have made the All-SEC team 16 times.
In total, Mississippi State has produced 124 NFL players, including 11 first-round draft picks, and in its 1941-1998 history, it has produced the second-most NFL draft picks in league history (11). The 1995-96 team reached the pinnacle of MSU's basketball history by winning the SEC regular season title and NCAA tournament title, defeating eventual national champion Kentucky (rank), and earning a spot on the national championship team for the first time in school history. Coach Babe McCarthy led the team to the Final Four by traveling to East Lansing, Michigan, to face Loyola University in Chicago, only to lose there to the Ramblers, who won the title that year.

Brown learned the game on the course and won many tournaments as a black man - only to become only the second African-American to receive a PGA Tour card. He led them to their first bowl victory ever, beating C-US champion UCF 10-3 in a Liberty Bowl.
When Tim Tebow did his thing all over Kentucky and the rest of the SEC, he was the Gators "offensive coordinator. Calipari is 16-0 in his career at Mississippi State and Kentucky is 15-0 against the Bulldogs under him. During his time at MSU, Mullen led the Bulldogs to two bowl wins and a trip to the Liberty Bowl since signing. After retiring from the ad hoc position, Larry continued to engage in college football, serving in many positions in the SEC office as an associate commissioner and serving on NCAA committees.
Since 1895, Mississippi State has been associated with three different sports conferences, including the SEC, SEC West and SEC East, and the American Athletics Conference. He is also a member of the Sports Illustrated All-Decade team, which selects the best college football players of all time in the U.S. and around the world. There are numerous halls of fame at Ole Miss, including a Hall of Famer on the football field and a Hall of Fame athletic director. He will be the 10th representative of the school when he is inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in December.
Mississippi State University also operates several club sports through the University Rec and Sports Office, which compete with several other SEC universities. Starkville Parks and Recreation organizes the annual football, basketball, football, volleyball, athletics and athletics events. The Starkville Sportsplex offers athletes access to a state-of-the-art lighting and football field as well as a variety of other facilities.
